Discovering New Artists

In the music industry before the development of the Internet, it was difficult to find a new artist. Hearing their music for the first time can make the listener very excited. However, they may have to wait months or years to hear more of the artist's music. The reason is very simple. I mentioned in Chapter 5 that before the Internet era, it was difficult to release songs, and the cost of hardware and software was very high. Many artists may not be able to release another song after releasing one song. But now, as long as you find an artist you like, you can “consume” everything they do. In fact, independent music producers now operate in this mode.
For example, Oh Wonder, which is a British alternative pop independent music artist group, had released songs on Soundcloud since September 2014. A year later, they released their first album “Oh Wonder”. Among the 15 songs, 13 were singles they created, produced, mixed, and released in their home studio in southeast London during the year. So in this year, they gradually became known to everyone and accumulated many fans. Although they signed with Republic Records later, the songs in their four albums so far are basically all created, produced, and mixed by themselves.
In the final analysis, the development of the Internet has led to the rapid rise of a platform suitable for independent musicians such as Soundcloud, which gives them the opportunity to show themselves, gain attention, and be known by everyone, so as to make money.

As you said in your article, the rapid growth of the Internet has lowered the cost of producing and publishing music and provided more opportunities for musicians to present their work to the public. At the same time, the internet also provides listeners with a more convenient platform to listen to music.
It isn't expected that the Internet has changed the music industry so much. It created a whole new field of music artists.
